What does a rotary actuator do?

Neilson Hydraulics explains the function of a rotary actuator.

Rotary actuators transform pneumatic, hydraulic, or electric energy to mechanical rotation. A rotary actuator differs from a linear actuator, which uses linear motion to convey force as opposed to rotation, but a rotary actuator can also be connected to mechanisms to form linear actuators. Either of these actuators can be a servo or servomotor, which is an actuator with sensors to give it high precision.

Hydraulic rotary actuators are typically utilised for applications requiring high torques. A major use of hydraulic rotary actuators is the mobile construction equipment industry. Although hydraulic motors and cylinders are common, actuators are used where rotation is limited to a revolution or less and a compact solution is necessary.

Neilson Hydraulics is an official Moveco UK distributor. They supply a range of Moveco Rotary Actuators, including the Moveco ARC Series, Moveco ARM Series, Moveco ARP Series and Moveco ARR Series Rotary Actuators that can be used in a range of applications, from aerial platforms, mining, industry to marine.
