Celebrating 60 Years of TransDev

60 years of engineering expertise, and excellence in power transmission and motion solutions.

This year marks a special milestone for Transmission Developments (TransDev) as the company celebrates its 60th anniversary. In a world where very few businesses stand the test of time, reaching six decades is no small achievement.

Family-owned since the very beginning

TransDev’s story stretches back even further than its official 60 years of manufacturing and distribution.

The business has roots in the postwar years when it traded under a different name but remained under the same Osborne family ownership. That time saw it gravitate into special pulley production for the then Uniroyal company, before introducing the very first polyurethane belts into the UK market from German manufacturing partners.

The family heritage continues today, bringing stability, consistency and a long-term outlook. This has helped TransDev grow into the UK’s leading independent mechanical power transmission and motion supplier. This includes the in-house manufacture of specialist belts, pulleys, gears and sprockets.

Six decades of growth and resilience

TransDev’s sustained success has enabled it to continuously add to its portfolio, creating the ‘complete motion package’ for its customers. In its early days this included the addition of chain products to complement the belting for drives and conveying. Later it was the manufacturing of plastic guide rails and wear strips, followed by engineering and display plastics for machine parts and guarding. More recently, hoses have been included in the product range, further broadening the motion offering to the transport of liquid, gas and
other substances.

Over the years, TransDev has also navigated changing markets, economic challenges and evolving technologies. During the 2008 financial crisis, they found new markets, such as supplying belts and pulleys for solar panel production lines. When COVID-19 paralysed supply chains, TransDev continued to support resellers, traders and vital UK industries with its large stock profile. In particular, its high-quality SYNCHROFLEX PU belting was in demand for medical devices and pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Strong partnerships and collaboration

Collaboration has been a key part of TransDev’s story. Longstanding relationships with suppliers and international partners, including German manufacturers such as BRECO, CONTINENTAL and Wippermann, have helped the business offer consistently high-quality solutions to its customers. These partnerships are not just about business transactions; they are built on trust, shared expertise and mutual respect developed over decades.

Looking forward

Marking 60 years is an achievement worth celebrating, but with a turnover of over £10 million and nearly 100 team members, TransDev is far from standing still. With a focus on nurturing talent, supporting staff and continuing to innovate, the company is investing in its future as much as it is proud of its past.

“As we celebrate 60 years of innovation, resilience, and excellence at Transmission Developments, I am filled with immense pride and gratitude. This milestone is not just a reflection of our longevity but of the unwavering commitment of our team, the trust of our partners, and the loyalty of our customers.”

“With firm financial foundations and decades at the leading edge of industrial motion, I look forward to the exciting future we will continue to shape, driven by the same passion and focus on driving the success of our customers.”
