Expanding Access: Bearings 2000’s Strategy to Support Africa’s Industrial Growth

As countries across Africa continue to invest in infrastructure and industrial development, the demand for reliable, technically sound supply partners has never been greater. Bearings 2000 (B2K), a leading industrial parts supplier headquartered in South Africa, is answering that call—expanding its footprint beyond borders and bringing its well-established service model to new African markets.

Founded in 1992, B2K has spent over three decades developing a reputation for reliability, expertise, and strong customer partnerships across South Africa’s industrial sectors. From mining and large industries such as cement, paper, petrochemical, metals to agriculture, food production and other manufacturing, the company has built its business by understanding its customers’ needs and delivering fast, efficient solutions. This has been backed by deep technical knowledge and high product availability.

“Our strong customer relationships in South Africa have shown us what’s possible when service meets reliability,”

Ross Trevelyan, Managing Director, B2K

“We’re now taking that proven approach to new African markets, adapting it to meet their specific needs.”

B2K is currently in the process of launching operations in Zambia in July 2025, with plans to establish a second operation in a neighbouring country later in the year. This marks a new phase in the company’s growth and reflects B2K’s commitment to long-term investment in the continent, rather than a short-term export-driven approach. The focus is on local presence, local stockholding, and locally based teams that understand the industries they serve.

Built for the continent
What sets B2K apart in a fragmented and often under-served market is its ability to combine product depth with technical and operational strength. As an authorised distributor of premium global brands such as SKF, the company maintains strong relationships with OEMs and end users alike.

Its large central warehouse, regional branches, and in-house engineering workshop offer customers more than just bearings and power transmission—they provide tailored solutions, whether it’s custom engineered products, refurbishing bearings and housings or helping a plant reduce downtime through better maintenance practices and training.

“Our strength lies in combining reliable product supply with technical support—helping customers prevent failures and improve uptime,” says Michael Stamatiadis, Sales Director at B2K.

With a strong focus on power transmission and a comprehensive product range that extends well beyond bearings, including exclusive distribution of IWIS transmission chain in Sub Saharan Africa, B2K is well positioned to service the complex and varied needs of the African industry.

Africa-focused, customer-driven
The decision to expand operations into other African countries didn’t happen overnight. It was driven by years of servicing cross-border clients and understanding the challenges they face: inconsistent supply, counterfeit bearing risks, long lead times, and limited technical support. B2K’s strategic intent is to fill those gaps—not just with inventory, but with infrastructure and people on the ground.

“Africa’s industrial growth is accelerating, and it’s our role to ensure the industries driving that growth have access to reliable parts, technical expertise, and local service,” says Michael Stamatiadis.

As B2K enters these new markets, it brings with it a proven model: strong supplier relationships, regional stockholding, in-house technical expertise, and a service-driven culture. The company’s expansion is grounded in its belief that African industries deserve the same consistency, reliability, and quality found in more developed markets—and that local presence is essential to delivering that promise.

Looking ahead
With operations soon to be established in Zambia and another neighbouring country in 2025, B2K is laying the foundation for broader regional engagement. While each market will have its unique challenges, the company’s approach remains consistent: build trust, invest locally, and deliver real value.

“This isn’t a one-size-fits-all rollout,” says Ross Trevelyan. “It’s about understanding the needs of each market, building the right team, and creating partnerships that last.”

As B2K enters its next chapter, its focus remains clear—supporting Africa’s industrial progress with reliable products, responsive service, and a commitment to being on the ground where it matters most.
