Mitsuboshi Belting Ltd. has introduced MEGA TORQUE EP, a synchronous timing belt engineered with a hybrid tooth geometry that blends the load-carrying characteristics of traditional round (H-type) profiles with the smoother meshing behaviour of S-type profiles. The new GP tooth profile is designed to reduce sliding friction during engagement while maintaining firm tooth seating for applications requiring high torque transmission.
The belt is manufactured for compatibility with H, R, and GT* pulley profiles, allowing it to be integrated into many existing drive systems without pulley modification. This supports both OEM designs and retrofit applications where pulley replacement is not practical.
MEGA TORQUE EP is constructed with EPDM rubber, selected for thermal stability, ozone resistance, and long-term elasticity. The tooth surfaces incorporate a treated nylon fabric engineered to resist abrasion and reduce wear during repeated meshing cycles. A high-stiffness tensile cord minimises elongation and contributes to stable transmission ratios during operation.
The profile supports minimum pulley tooth counts of 22 teeth for GP8M pitch belts and 28 teeth for GP14M, enabling use in compact machinery layouts. Testing indicates that MEGA TORQUE EP provides more than twice the power transmission capacity of standard H-series belts, supporting higher load requirements or the option to utilise narrower belt widths depending on system design.
By reducing sliding friction between the belt tooth and the pulley groove, meshing noise and heat generation are minimised. These characteristics contribute to extended service intervals, particularly in equipment with continuous duty cycles or frequent speed changes.
MEGA TORQUE EP is designed for industrial drive systems such as HVAC units, textile and printing machines, conveyors, packaging equipment, and general-purpose mechanical drives operating under high torque or dynamic load conditions.
