ACORN is doing its bit for the planet, making sustainable decisions and introducing environmental initiatives to better the bearing and power transmission industry.
ACORN® is one of the largest stockists of bearings, linear motion systems, power transmission products and maintenance equipment in Europe. The company was acquired by the Axel Johnson Group eight years ago in 2016, and since then, they have celebrated 40 years of service, whilst continuing to expand and innovate on a global scale.
Sustainability is a key focus for ACORN and the Axel Johnson Group, with several initiatives in place across the business, building on an already solid foundation of sustainability work.
You may remember the ACORN ‘Bee the Difference’ initiative back in 2023, where the company welcomed a hive of bees to the head office grounds in Rotherham to support the local ecosystem. The hive was a huge success, with the bees settling in well and producing multiple batches of honey.
“We are pleased that our employees are able to get involved. Our Bee Keeper Mark has some of the team join him on hive inspections, so staff can see the bees up close, and learn about how vital bees are to our planet” -The ACORN Marketing Team
In order to improve their sustainability efforts, ACORN has introduced a number of initiatives and processes in recent years. ACORN has opted to reuse packaging for orders wherever possible, and only use paper and card packing materials so they can be recycled by the end user. With the UK government setting out a path to zero emission vehicles by 2035, large businesses such as ACORN are taking action. The company are currently introducing electric vans to replace and phase out all of their petrol vehicles.
As well as making changes to the distribution side to the business model, ACORN are improving warehouse facilities to help conserve energy. The buildings have been installed with LED motion sensor lights that are not only more efficient and secure but also provide cost savings.
ACORN works closely with suppliers to offer customers sustainable products. Lubricants is a key focus for ACORN where a switch to biodegradable lubricant that can break down naturally will reduce environmental impact while meeting the rigorous demands of industrial machinery.
